Starting point

Before trace analysis, the sample is comminuted. The smallest amounts count: abrasion from the jar distorts the result, and a leaking screw joint leads to sample loss and carry-over between batches.

Solution

Two-part grinding jar, consisting of jar and counterpart, screwed together.

  • Process: comminution for 5 min at 30 Hz
  • Material: martensitic chromium steel, hardened. High wear resistance with low abrasion, corrosion-resistant.
  • Inner contour: rounded, without dead zones and with few transitions. The sample can be removed completely, and the jar is cleaned quickly between batches.
  • Connection: positive-locking screw joint, designed for the loads of the grinding process
  • Leak-tightness verification: test run with fluorescent powder under process conditions (5 min, 30 Hz). The parting line is then inspected under UV light for escaped powder.

Result

  • Leak-tight under process conditions, verified with fluorescent powder
  • Low contamination from the jar material into the sample
  • Prototype for testing in everyday lab use and basis for the series version
